Dr Murthy had a major impact on my life as he did for so many students. He nominated me for awards, graced us with brilliant lectures, and kept his door open to help us.
In 1996 my graduation process was disrupted due to an error in the registrar’s office. I wasn’t going to graduate since even though I had more than enough credits and an honors designation, the school insisted that I needed to take a one credit course required of Freshmen on the topic of study techniques. Dr Murthy somehow learned of the issue and called me into his office and told me that he was “looking forward to seeing me graduate” the next week. I started to tell him that I wasn’t allowed to graduate due to the missing class and he said “You’re graduating. It’s done. Make sure you have your cap and gown ready and your honors sash”. It took a few minutes to realize what he was saying and I broke down crying in his office. The relief was overwhelming. I don’t know what would have happened without his intervention, but what it resulted in was my being able to graduate and move on to graduate school at Chapel Hill for which I received a full scholarship.. There will never be a way to express my gratitude for the difference he made in my life.

Dear Athayagaru,Sekhar bavagaru and family,Bujji Vodhina garu and family
I was shocked to hear of the sudden demise of Mavayagaru (he was like my father-in-law) being closely related to my wife Aparna. I still remember seeking his blessings at my wedding back in India or even the recent video chats over Skype. Aparna always had a very high regard for him as he was a very loveable, warm and affectionate person. She often mentioned him as a person who was responsible for helping many young families settle down. We both offer our deepest condolences to his family &near and dear ones . Our prayers are with the family so they find strength and peace at this hour of sadness.
Warm regards Sridhar & Aparna

Dr. Murthy VLN Pinapaka, kindly known as “Dr. Murthy,” was a brilliant dedicated scientist and excellent professor at Fayetteville State University for over forty years. He spent many hours helping students to succeed in undergraduate and graduate programs, and getting into medical school. As Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences, he enabled the university to receive thousands of dollars for research, scientific equipment, conference participation, and scholarships for students. Under his leadership, teacher education graduates were highly rated in the State for effective teaching, and FSU students won many awards in scientific competitions. Dr. Murthy was a kind and patient man and was always willing to listen and give guidance to faculty, staff, and students. Thank you Dr. Murthy for all that you have done and know that you live on in the hearts and minds of all those you helped.

To the family of Dr. Murthy Pinapaka. It was a sad day and tears were shed to learn of his passing. Dr. Murthy as he was affectionately called had a deep passion for teaching. He had a kind, gentle and humble spirit. I am so grateful to have worked with him as the Dept. Secretary. As the song says "Let the work I've done speak for me" yes the work he has done as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, instructor and friend will forever speak for him. Blessings be unto the family.

To the family of Dr. Murthy, as we knew him at FSU. I am sadden to learn of his home-going. He was a kind and gentle man who loved teaching and assisting students. Dr. Murthy provided outstanding leadership to the Department of Natural Sciences for many years and aided in the graduation of many students who became medical doctors and professionals in many areas of the sciences. We will miss Dr. Murthy but his work and vision will live for decades in the students he taught and mentored.

Dear Srimathi Satyavathi Murthy garu, Chi. Sow. Bujji, Chi. Ganesh, Chi. Babu, Chi. Sow. Sarvari, and family:
Our family is deeply distressed by the loss of Dr. Pinapaka Murthy garu, a noble, respectable, very helpful, dignified, kind, and pious gentleman. It is with great sadness that we offer our heartfelt condolences to all of your family members on this very sad occasion. Our close association and friendship goes back to over 50 years. Sri Murthy garu helped all of our family members whenever we needed any help and attended numerous functions in our house and we are most appreciative of having had all these pleasant memories. Lord Sri Krishna knows the best and we cannot understand His leelas (activities). On this most painful occasion, please know that Soul is eternal and let us follow Dr. Murthy’s good character, kindness, compassion, dedication, and helping nature. He did so much to our family that we cannot adequately express our gratitude in this short note. May Lord Sri Krishna give you and your family strength to bear this most difficult situation. We should not lament now because the Soul is immortal and permanent.

We are praying Lord Sri Krishna daily for His mercy to bless the Soul of Sri Murthy garu and take him to Vaikuntha to serve Lord Narayana eternally. At this time, I remember the following benefits of chanting the holy name of the Lord Krishna mentioned in our scriptures.

sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo moksayisyami ma sucaha (Bhagavad-gita 18:66)

Renounce all dharmas (duties) and surrender unto Me (Lord Sri Krishna) alone. I shall liberate you from all sins. Do not worry.

na tad bhasayete suryo na sasanko na pavakaha
yad gatva na nivartante tad dhama paramam mama (Bhagavad-gita 15:6)

The supreme abode of Mine (God Krishna) is not illuminated by the sun or moon, nor by the fire or electricity. Those who reach Krishna’s abode will never return to this material world.

harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasti eva gatir anyatha

In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy, the only means of deliverance is chanting the holy name of the Lord Krishna. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way.

Therefore, we must chant the following Mahamantra, recommended in the Brahmanda Purana, Agni Purana, and Kalisantarana Upanisad.

Hare Krsna hare Krsna Krsna Krsna hare hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

May Lord Sri Krishna’s deep love and mercy comfort you in times of distress and grief.

With love and prayers,

Sekhara Rao Basavaraju and Latha – Greensboro, North Carolina
