Retired SFC Richard “Arlo” Alan Guthrie, 49, of Raeford peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at his home. He is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents.
He enjoyed hunting, the ocean, and his dogs. However, the thing he was most proud of was being part of the Special Forces brotherhood.
He spent 24 years in the Army, serving with the 96th Civil Affairs, 1st Special Forces Group, Special Warfare Training Center, Test Jumper with Airborne Special Operations Test Directorate, and was a Military Free Fall Instructor (MFFI-632).
He is survived by his wife, Tracy; sons, Clayton Guthrie (Darfus) of Granville, OH and Cody Young of Boone; daughters, Hannah Guthrie (Darfus)of Granville, Emily Young of Raeford, and Taylor Guthrie of Duhlin, OH; his father, Rick Guthrie; his mother, Linda Guthrie and stepfather, Tom Guthrie; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 pm Monday November 23, 2015 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:45 - 2:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
