Tom's passing has just come to my attention this November 2018. To the family, please accept my belated and sincere sympathy over your loss. I served with Tom in Vietnam 1969 on A-team 414. I see that another team member, Steve Kabel, has also posted. On behalf of all team members, we were proud to serve with him and to know him. We are still proud of him. Tom and I ran combat patrol together and I learned a lot from his leadership. I've never known anyone since as brave or cool headed under fire as Tommy Powell. I truly regret not being able to locate him years ago. May the Lord bless you.

I had the honor of serving with Tom in Detachment A-414 Thanh Tri during his first deployment in South Vietnam. We served together as the A team's demolition sergeants. Tom was the epitome of a smart, professional, and courageous soldier. His leadership in combat was demonstrated time and again. Tom transitioned out of our team and we lost touch with him...only to find out he left to volunteer for the preparatory training for the Song Tay prisoner raid. This is not surprising. Wishing Tom's family the very best and know that he was a hero to so many and will be missed.

I had the privilege of serving with Tom at Bragg during our O&I training during Phase II. He was always the embodiment of what SF soldiers should be. Remembered always.
