Although you have moved away from life, you will live forever in the hearts and minds of those of us who loved you. You and your aunt Andrea were so close and died way too soon. Uncle Howard Bodney

Dear Nick, Terry, Jason, Patrick and family, Doug and All

I was unable to come to America to attend Rachel's funeral service, however - I attended her memorial in Halifax, England on Saturday, 24 September, 2016.

I met Rachel 35 years ago in Frankfurt, Germany. She and our group of girls formed a lifelong friendship. We had many good, times together - young, free years filled with laughter. I also shared an apartment with Rachel in Colorado Springs and before Rachel married Doug and had Nick, we had so much fun - again, wild, funny times, we travelled with friends and we laughed our way along, learnt to ski and so much more. You were never bored in Rachel's company - she would always find something to do that was uplifting, daft, silly and funny.

Rachel became a wife and mother, our lives eventually moved in different directions and I moved back to England but we have remained in touch and 'the girls' - Kim, Fiona, Gaby, Gaynor, Debbie, and I would get together when Rachel visited family back in England and we exchanged cards and phone calls. I am sad not to have visited her in America but we have always been in each other's minds and hearts.

Rachel had challengers in her life and travels, but she filled it with fun - she had a wicked sense of humour, and when she walked into a room you were aware of her presence, her sunniness and twinkling blue eyes - she made the best of things and her cup was always half full. She thought the best of everyone, and if she had her doubts, she was private with her thoughts and opinions.

She was a fun Mum to Nick, and wonderful daughter to Terry - sister to Jason and for the rest of us - well, she was gave us the best too.

Rachel's ashes were freed on a beautiful hillside in Halifax, Yorkshire, England, close to her Mother and with love, the hillside will be beautiful year round - yes even in the rain - and in Spring with golden, dancing daffodils and beautiful in Autumn looking out across a green valley.

We will always miss her but we are lucky - the memories we have of her will make us smile and this is good.

Rest in peace Rachel.

Much love, Kim xxx

I can only echo the heartfelt words of Fiona. As I type this I can see the photo of Rachel as the older woman she had become, at the same time I can see my pin board full of photos of all the gang in Frankfurt during the early 80’s. We have such wonderful memories, such fun times, with Rachel a central part of them. I remember Andrea, her beloved Aunt also a part of those times. There will certainly be shenanigans going on in heaven with those two up there! We will get together to celebrate Rachel’s life, we don’t know where or when because it needs to be really special and fitting for someone who had such impact on our lives. As I sit typing this with tears in my eyes, my thoughts turn to Nick, Patrick, Terry, Jason, Gail and all of Rachel’s American family that loved her and are suffering at her passing. Rest in peace beautiful lady xxxxxxxx

I have known Rachel for over 30 years, my heart goes out to her family especially Nick her son, Terry her father, and of course Patrick her husband and family there. Rachel was a special friend I remember a girl always so full of life vibrant, wild, funny, caring, the list is endless being around Rachel was like living in bright sunshine, the thought of her gone is heart wrenching and impossible for me to take in! To be so far away is also very hard, for myself and the group of us here we intend to plant daffodils in our garden to remember her each year as they come up like the sunshine she was, and we will get together and hold our own memorial for her. RIP Rachel taken from us much to young but never forgotten love always Fiona in England X
