Magdalene Frazier Darden, 89, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully in her home on Mon. Sept. 28, 2015 surrounded by her family.

Know as Mag, to her family and friends, she was the devoted wife to Frank; a loving and nurturing mother to Frank, Sharyn, Lynn, and Joe; and an endearing grandmother to Kelly and Eric. Mag was a warm and caring neighbor, friend, and educator to students with whom she shared her love of books. She was passionate about people and truly never met a stranger. Her compassion for others often led her to bake a cake or cook a meal, to send a birthday card or short note, or to make a late night phone call to someone in need. A gracious and talented hostess and cook, Mag will be remembered for the many parties, receptions and family get-togethers she hosted in her home.

Mrs. Darden was born in Surry County to J. Thomas and Zetta Frazier. She attended Anderson Creek High School, where she graduated valedictorian. Upon graduating from Worth Business School, she worked for Kimbell's Furniture Store but spent most of her career as a media clerk for the Cumberland County School system from which she later retired.

She was a long time and faithful member of Vaughn Memorial Church where she was a member of the Women of the Church, a member of the choir, and served as youth adviser and elder. She was an active member of her seniors club, The Heart Warmers, and loved volunteering at the Cancer Center of Fayetteville. A beautiful woman inside and out, Mag leaves a legacy of love for us all and her giving spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Darden, Sr.; brothers, Homer and Jim Frazier; and sisters, Ruth Strogner, Freda Johnson, and Dot Frazier.

She is survived by her son, Frank Darden, Jr. and wife, Sharyn; daughter, Lynn Glass and husband, Joe; and granddaughter, Kelly Alderman and husband, Eric.

A service to celebrate the life of Mag, will be conducted at Vaughn Memorial Presbyterian Church at 11 am Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 with the Rev. Doug Jordan and Rev. Earl Vaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wed. Sept. 30, 2015 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Friends of the Cancer Center, c/o Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation, Inc. PO Box 87526 Fayetteville, NC 28304 and 3HC Home Health & Hospice Care, Inc. 1023 Beaman St. Clinton, NC 28328.

The family would like to express appreciation to all who enriched Mag's Life over the years and to her caregivers, Chris Barefoot, Star Miller, Kim Hart, Mary Beth Sloan, and Kirsten Hart for their excellent care, love, and compassion. Also special thank to the many kind and compassionate nurses and aids from 3HC Hospice Center.
