Welcome to the memorial page for

David Waylett

April 10, 1953 ~ October 20, 2014 (age 61) 61 Years Old

David Wayne Waylett was born in Fayetteville on Apr. 10, 1953 and departed this life on Oct. 20, 2014.

David, like his father, was a drummer from age 3. He took over his dad’s gig at the local nightclub, The Groove, when still in high school. He played in many bands throughout his life, most recently making frequent trips to Wilmington to play in the Duke Ladd Band.

David was a long-time employee of McFayden Music as the band instrument repair specialist. The McFayden family of co-workers were loved like family. He most recently was a partner in Cape Fear Music Center in downtown Fayetteville where he continued to pursue the business of band instrument repair.

David was pre-deceased by his father, Wayne Adams Waylett.

He is survived by his mother, Betty McBryde Waylett; brother, Donald Carey Waylett (Melissa) of Franklin, TN; long-time love, Yvonne Drew and trusted friend, Ann Mathews.

David was a proud member of a close knit band of brothers from the old neighborhood. These extraordinary men include his brother, Donald Waylett along with patriarch of the group, Johnny Parsek, Jerry Parsek, Wayne Curtis, Jeff Curtis, Danny Boudreau, Stan Smith, Mike Smith, Randy Taylor and the late, much missed, Mike Earnhardt.

David was a loving and caring soul who had only praise for others. There was no malice in his heart.

David attended First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon for several years. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Details of a future celebration of David's life to be announced soon.
