Daniel Edward Underwood

Daniel Edward Underwood passed away Sunday October 22, 2017 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

He was born in Fayetteville to Theodore and Ruby McLeod Underwood on November 18, 1935. He spent his childhood years in Fayetteville with his brother and sister, Ted and Dot, attending Fayetteville High School where he excelled at football and basketball. He met Mallie Faith Wynn during those high school years and they married in 1954. He served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Navy with his military travels taking him all over the world. Dan and Mallie were blessed with three children. Dan worked several jobs after military retirement with his last being an instructor at FTCC. After Mallie’s death in 1992, he was fortunate to meet and marry Mildred “Millie” Lucas, whom he spent 24 happy years with until his death. By marrying Millie, he was welcomed into her family whom he loved dearly. 

He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Millie" Underwood of the home; two daughters, Danice "Dani" Underwood of Durham and Dawn Lee Underwood of Fayetteville; a son, Daniel E. Underwood, II of Burgaw; three grandchildren, Mallie Danielle Underwood, Malik Andre Underwood and Adam Campbell; two great grandchildren; two step children, Ron Allen and Christi Hauke; and step grandchildren, Jessie Allen, Anna Allen, Miguel Allen, Sofia Allen, Jacob Hauke and Samantha Hauke.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Thursday, October 26, 2017 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm prior the service at the funeral home.
