Elva Naylor Smith, 91, of Fayetteville passed away July 16, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

She is survived by her two daughters Vivian Vandevijvere (Andre) and Wilma Burnette (Bill); two granddaughters, Michelle Mena and Leah Hankins; one grandson, John Schall; great grandchildren, Brent Hankins, Nathan Hankins, Rylan Schall and Max Mena; a sister in law, Debbie Naylor; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewis Smith; a brother, Duron “Buddy” Naylor; and sisters, Clina Faircloth, Annie Pearl Byrd, and Sarah “Liz” O’Connor.

As an Army wife for 28 years, she traveled extensively throughout the US & Europe and many have heard her ship story which explains why she always took her coffee black.

She was truly the foundation for her family, caring selflessly for anyone in need. Everyone who met her loved her instantly and she was called Grandma by many. The life of every family member has been shaped by their daily interactions and relationship with her. She has guided many along the right path and has been supportive all along the way, no matter what. She was truly someone who was always there for others. There was probably never a woman who loved children more than her. She worked at KinderCare Daycare on Owen Drive for many years and was always eager to babysit anyone's little one.

Our lives will never be the same but we will always have great thoughts and memories of her and who we are is because of her.

A funeral service will be held at 12 pm (noon) Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:45 am - 11:545 am prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family request any donations be made to Full Gospel Revival Center 102 W. K St. Erwin, NC 28339.
