Violet Rachael "Beaddy" Farrell Obituary

Violet Rachael Milligan Farrell “Beaddy”, died December 27, 2020 at     100 years old.

Beaddy was born December 16, 1920 in Lumberton, NC to the late Rich and Lillian Milligan. She was a wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and a great friend to all who knew her.

Beaddy married the love of her life, HB Farrell Jr. in 1939 in Dillon, SC. They soon moved to Wilmington, NC where HB was originally from and where he worked. When Beaddy became pregnant with their twins, Mike and Jane, she came back to Fayetteville to be close to family. HB also moved to Fayetteville where they had another child, Henry Bynum Farrell, III. HB and Beaddy were married for 52 years.

Amazingly, HB always gave Beaddy a Whitman’s Chocolate Sampler and roses every Valentine’s Day until he passed. HB was a US Navy Veteran who served during WWII.

Beaddy loved to cook and was an avid reader. She kept most of the books she had read in an office in the downstairs of the family home. Beaddy was known for her scratch made biscuits and cornbread. No one would ever go hungry in her house. Most family and friends met and socialized in her kitchen when having a glass of sweet tea or “half a cup” of coffee. Oh, the conversations we had!

Beaddy also had a hand in raising all her grandchildren. They lived close and visited often. She taught all the grandchildren how to fish and bait a hook. You could find her almost anytime at her Holden Beach cottage, surf fishing, even in the rain. If any of the kids or Beaddy caught a fish – it was dinner!

HB and Beaddy had a small but strong circle of friends. They ate at Chris’ Steak House every Tuesday night, golfed at the Green Valley Country Club (where she once made a hole in one!), and loved to spend some weekends at White Lake, NC dancing and swimming with friends. Beaddy loved to dance. She would show anyone how to do the Charleston if they didn’t know how to dance.

Beaddy was a church member at First Baptist Church and then First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville where she and HB were Sunday School members. She was involved in the Shrinettes, FILI Auxiliary, and the Eastern Star. Beaddy was recently a church member at Village Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Mike Farrell and wife Karen, Jane Cheney and husband Ben, and daughter-in-law Ann Farrell Searcy. Her youngest son, Henry Farrell III passed away in 2014.

Beaddy had four siblings, Colleen Ling and husband Pete, Ronnie Milligan and wife Betty, Fletcher Milligan died in 1977 and Mafalda Landgon died in 2019.

Her grandchildren are Micky Farrell and wife Maria, Shelley Farrell Cawood, Jeff Farrell and wife Donna, Missy Farrow and husband Chris, Ben Cheney Jr, Amanda Briggs and husband John.

Beaddy also had many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.

A Funeral service will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home. Burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park.

Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Beaddy Farrell to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr, Tampa, FL 33607 and Village Baptist Church, 906 S McPherson Church Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28303.
