Veller Sanford Marzahl, 88 passed away Sept 18, 2021 due to cardiac arrest after a brief issue with congestive heart failure. She was born March 04, 1933 in Person, NC to B.O and Eva Hicks. She had two loves of her life, Augustus Sanford married 41 years and Ben Marzahl married 16 years.
This small town southern girl set out on a 3-day bus ride alone to join her childhood sweetheart/ husband at Camp Pendleton in CA. She was a Rosie the Riveter during Korean War briefly. Once the war was over this adventurous girl moved back south and continued to live the remaining of her life. Her next great adventure of motherhood brought her the most pride. This working mother was ahead of her times in the 60’s and worked with Wachovia Bank 30 years.
She was a loving wife, sister, mother and friend that always had upbeat and kind words for those around her. Her life was a living example of Ephesian 4:32 – “ And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ. “
Veller will be sorely missed and survived by her husband Ben Marzahl of Fayetteville, sister Cora Brogden of Durham, son and daughter in law Anthony and Amie Sanford of Garner, stepson Steve Marzahl of Dallas, stepdaughter and husband Linda and Doug Owens of Goldsboro, step granddaughter Christina and Travis Masters of Weddington, and step granddaughter Patricia Owens of Raleigh all of whom she loved deeply.
Husband Augustus Sanford, brother Oscar Hicks and parents B.O and Eva Hicks, preceded Veller in death.
