Terry Mason Herndon, Sr.

Terry Mason Herndon, Sr., 82, of Bunnlevel, NC, passed away on Thursday, April 13th.

 He was born on July 1, 1940, to former Fayetteville Mayor George Burbank Herndon and Ione Brown Herndon. Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Judy McCrary Herndon and brother George Burbank Herndon, Jr. He is survived by his two sons, T. Mason Herndon, Jr. (Denise) of Wilmington, NC, and Brant K. Herndon (Joy) of Wilson, NC. Also, by his four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A graduate of Fayetteville High School, Terry went on to play football at Wake Forest University where he met and fell in love with his beloved wife, Judy McCrary. Known for his ambitious and persevering spirit, Terry was a successful entrepreneur, who owned and operated several successful businesses throughout his life. In retirement, Terry’s passions were conservation and wildlife management on his farm and held an extraordinary passion for training his award-winning field trial bird dogs. He also enjoyed serving his community through his involvement in Kiwanis, the local Ruritan club, and his church, First Presbyterian of Fayetteville.

A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Cross Creek Cemetery with Rev.Carlton Cockrell officiating.

 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to The Davis Legacy Fund at The Davis Community, 1011 Porters Neck Road, Wilmington, NC 28411. The Herndon family would like to extend their appreciation to the Davis physicians, nurses and staff who loved and cared for Terry during his time there.
