Sue Wampler Obituary

Sue passed away the evening of June 24, 2021 at home. 

Sue was a woman of indomitable spirit, love, intelligence and perseverance.  Her many medical obstacles never defined her. 

She was born in Harrisonburg VA on November 19, 1948 to Allen Shields Harvey Jr. and Lois Thompson Harvey.  Married to Wayne L. Wampler her husband of nearly 51 years.  They were joyfully joined by Leigh Ellen Wampler Johnson in 1979.  Grandchildren Maddox Woodley Johnson and Madelyn Sue Johnson were a never ending source of joy and love.  Paul W Johnson was welcomed into the family by marriage to Leigh in 2005.  She generated a circle of wonderful friends, acquaintances and coworkers; each knowing who they are.

She is survived by her sister, Jean Sartain and husband Jedy,  her brother, Don Harvey and his wife Sandra, 6 nieces and their husbands, and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Notable milestones include:

  • Member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Circle 4, and Today's Word Sunday School Class.
  • Co-editor of Thyme on the Hill Highland Presbyterian Cookbook
  • Wedding Guild Director.
  • Agency Director and Owner of AmeriCare HomeCare
  • Valedictorian Broadway High School
  • Graduated from Madison College
  • Earned her Masters Degree at University of North Carolina
  • Taught in Cumberland County Schools
  • Past President and Board Member of Cape Fear Regional Theater
  • Member of Fayetteville Literary Guild and Lafayette Garden Club
  • Active in several Bridge Clubs.
  • A devoted UNC Basketball fan.

 

Memorial services to be announced.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church.
