Stephen Richard Satisky, 75, of Fayetteville passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
Steve was born on December 27, 1947, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie Fleishman Satisky and Harry Satisky.
Steve was very involved with the community, which was sparked by his involvement in many political campaigns. He was an active member on multiple local, state, and national boards during his adult life to include FTCC Community College, Association of Community Colleges, Cumberland County ABC Board, Knights of Pythias, Creasy Proctor Masonic Lodge, Fayetteville Urban Ministry, Beth Israel Synagogue, and Fayetteville Academy. He was elected to the Fayetteville City Council in 1975, which at the time, made him the youngest person elected to that position.
Steve was a good friend to many and never met a stranger. He was social, outgoing, and enjoyed talking about any topic but especially anything concerning the history of Fayetteville, its people, and his maternal and paternal extended families. His memory of those events was remarkable, and people were amazed at his recollection of details. He was always available to help someone who may be struggling with a personal issue. Steve gave advice freely (but not always tactfully). One of his greatest pleasures was maintaining relationships with school mates throughout their elementary years and the Fayetteville High School Class of 1965.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia; his son, Dr. Kevin Satisky (Dr. Judy Thorn); grandson, Sam Satisky; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Lyn Satisky; “daughter”, Lesley Priddy; nephews, Keith Satisky (Graham), Brian Satisky (Shelly), and Mark Satisky (Elana); grand nieces and nephews, many cousins, and many, many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at Beth Israel Synagogue at 2:00 p.m. on April 9, followed by a graveside service in the Jewish section of Cross Creek Cemetery. Those choosing to make a donation to honor his memory may select a charity of their choice, Beth Israel Synagogue, or the Care Clinic.
