Shirley Jean (Walters) Barnes

Shirley Jean Barnes, 84, of Raleigh and formerly of Eastover, went to be with the Lord, November 26, 2024. Shirley was born in Robeson County, to the Walters family. She loved growing flowers and birdwatching in the backyard and had a special affinity for hummingbirds. She attended Haymount Free Will Baptist Church for many years prior to moving to Raleigh. 

Shirley is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Neil Archie Barnes; her brothers, Larry Adams, Curt, Meryl, Charles, Jimmy, and Junior Walters; and her grandson, Douglas Allen Barnes. She is survived by her sister, Irene Barnes; her daughter, Sharon Smith (David); her son, Allen Barnes (Connie), and grandchildren, Carson Smith, Samantha Diener (Evan) and Barrett Smith. Her grandchildren were her joy, and she never tired of talking about them.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 12:00 to 12:45 pm at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm in the chapel with Pastor Ricky Hopper officiating.  Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
