Shawn Jemonda Onion Obituary

Shawn Jemonda Onion, 47, passed away on March 20th, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father John Davis Jr., her mother Harriet Shawn Smith, her daughter Kiana Olesha Smith, and her husband Lonnell Paul Onion.

Shawn is survived by her fiancé Charles Adam Cogdell; her eldest son Derrick Smith; her daughter Destiny Nayo and son-in-law Yao Nayo; her youngest son Dashawn Anderson; her daughters, Laniyah and Nakiyah Onion; her sisters, Jennifer Smith-Jones, Sharon Smith-Evans, and Yurie Smith-Hudson; her grandchildren, Jaquan Smith, Kiana Nayo, and Legend Nayo.

Born in New Jersey to parents Harriet Shawn Smith and John Davis Jr, Shawn was fiercely passionate about life, family, and God. She dedicated her life to the pursuit of happiness.

Shawn achieved a number of degrees within the medical field as well as a theological degree. She met and married Lonnell Paul Onion and cared for their five children until his death, where she carried on as a single parent.

Shawn was a strong, loving, and supportive mother, spouse, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She loved shopping, travelling, cooking, riding her motorcycle, and most importantly her family.

Shawn joined Pure Platinum Fayetteville Chapter Social Club, later transferring to their Mother Chapter. She finally found happiness in Pure Platinum All Female Motorcycle Chapter where she served as Vice President.

In Shawn’s last days, she became engaged to her love Charles Adam Cogdell. They changed each other for the better.
