Ruth Gurganious Hames

Ruth Roberta Gurganious Hames, 91, of Cary, NC, passed away on November 13, 2021.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Erwin Hames; her father, Robert Jasper Gurganious; her mother, Margret Harris Gurganious; her sister, Margaret Josephine Gurganious Bethea; and her brother, Robert Jasper Gurganious Jr.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Robert Erwin Hames (Karen) of Florence, SC, and Donald Lee Hames (Suzanne) of Cary; her sister Edith Gurganious Devane (JF) of Fayetteville; her grandsons Joshua Hames (Carrie) of Cary and David Hames (Erin) of Hanahan, SC; her granddaughters, Amaris Hames of Cary, NC, Melissa Hames VanDeventer (Andy) of El Paso, TX, and Renee Hames of Houston, TX; and her great-grandchildren, Claire Hames of Cary, Vera Hames of Cary, and Jude Hames of Hanahan, SC.

Ruth was born July 28, 1930, in New Bern, NC. She grew up on the Rockefeller's estate in Overhill's, NC, where her father was the bookkeeper and manager.

Ruth was known for her ever-present smile and her encouragement to anyone she had a conversation with, especially her family.

Despite her size, Ruth was a warrior. A prayer warrior. She read her Bible every day, prayed every day, and her faith never wavered. Her witness and presence made a difference in countless lives, especially her family. She was known as an honest and generous person whose life positively impacted so many others. Those who knew her well will never forget her and are changed forever by having her in our lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on November 18, 2021, at the Cross Creek Cemetery, with Larry Chason officiating.
