Bobby Gene Bunce, 83, joined his family in heaven on March 6, 2021. Bobby was the youngest of five and he joins his parents, Archie and Margaret Bunce and his siblings Archie, Jr., Grace, Mildred, Louise, and Douglas Allan in the unspeakable joy of heaven.
Those waiting to join the heavenly celebration are his wife Elizabeth; son Daniel of Fayetteville; grandson Daniel Wade of Vanceboro; daughter Lori and son-in-law Cuong-Michael; granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth of Belmont; many nieces and nephews, and church family and friends of Fayetteville.
Bobby was born here in Fayetteville and went to 71st High School. After playing some football, tormenting his sisters, and worrying his mother, he graduated in 1955. Shortly after, he felt the Lord calling him to the ministry and was ordained by Baxter Walker at Mount Gilead Baptist Church. He went on to Southeastern Theological Seminary and graduated in 1971 with a Master of Divinity. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Chaplain and obtained the rank of Commander. He served as command chaplain on the USS Saratoga during the first Gulf War.
He loved people, the outdoors and spending time with his family fishing or hunting. Bobby took his last big game hunting trip with his son and grandson at 81. His daughter spent the week praying for the safety of the humans and the animals. (P.S. The Lord answered her prayers.)
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 6 – 8 PM at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. Service at Sandhills Veteran’s Cemetery Chapel at 3 PM on Thursday, March 11, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wounded Warrior’s Project, Navy Relief, or NC MedAssist at medassist.org.
