Renata Pierina Cacciatori Smith, 93, of Fayetteville joined her beloved husband, Paul, in heaven on October 12, 2021. She was born in Verona, Italy on October 16, 1927.
Renata was preceded in death by her parents, Guiseppe and Norma Cacciatori. She is survived by her daughters, Edith Griffith, and Patricia Schob (Robert); grandchildren Ginny Griffith, James Griffith (Chelsea), Christopher Griffith (Brea) all of Fayetteville, Elizabeth Schob of Charlotte, and Bailey Schob of Raleigh; great grandson James Griffith; sister Luisa Cacciatori of Verona, Italy, and brother Gianni Caciatori (Viviana) of Villafranca, Italy; and several nieces and nephews.
Renata was part of the great generation who survived WWII. She came to America after marrying the love of her life, US Army Sgt Paul Smith, in Italy in 1959 where she devoted her life to her husband and family. She enjoyed attending St. Patrick Catholic Church and participating in the Italian American Club. Renata exemplified love for her family, neighbors, and friends.
The family wishes to thank her hospice caregivers for their exceptional compassion and care and her wonderful Loch Lomond neighbors and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 23 from 12pm to 1:15pm followed by a funeral mass in the chapel of Rogers and Breece. Renata will be laid to rest beside her husband at Lafayette Memorial Park West following the service.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Maryknoll Missionary Society.
