Reed Jonathan Thomas Awad, 17, of Wade NC, went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2021.
Reed attended the Eastover Central Elementary School for the Arts, Mac Williams Middle School where he ran track, was a member of the Beta Club and played Upward basketball. He attended the Cumberland International Early College High School on the campus of Fayetteville State University and received the Presidential Merit Scholarship at the University of Mount Olive where he was to be a Junior in the Fall. He was a Governor's Page Program candidate and a North Carolina High School Scholar.
Everyone knew Reed as a kind, generous person with his time, always ready to help. Each summer since 2017 (except for 2020) Reed volunteered with the Jarran Reed Foundation Camp in Goldsboro NC. He took part in ministry with his Papa for individuals with special needs and was a member of the Hospitality Team at Manna Cliffdale.
Reed loved his family and friends deeply. He enjoyed spending time with them at the beach, watching movies, and playing games. His time was spent skateboarding, swimming, and canoeing. He looked forward every year to going to his extended family in the Adirondacks and spending time with his family there and in New York with his family that lived in New Jersey. He enjoyed his North Carolina family and visited around as often as he could.
Reed's winning smile and "How you doing today?" was a bright spot in anyone's day that knew him. He was always ready with a hug. Reed was loved deeply by his family and friends.
Reed is survived by his parents, Farid and Lindsay Awad; sister, Semma Awad; great grandmothers, Barbara Broomfield of Marlborough, CT and Clare Krueger of Goldsboro, NC; grandparents, Awad and Mofida Awad of New York, NY and Ken and Janet Krueger of Goldsboro, NC; uncles and aunts, Amgad and Amira Awad, Mike and Marline Awad, Ramy and Vanessa Awad, John Paul and Jowita Mansour, Jonathan and Nikki Krueger, Jerod and Laura Krueger; cousins, Jordan, Ethan, Jeremiah, Jasmine, Jadyn, Noah, Layla, Logan, Eli, Dominic, Nathan, Matthew, Josiah, Elijan, and over 100 relations in his extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Manna Church Cliffdale with Pastor Elliot Diaz officiating.
