Rachel Starling Jones

Rachel Starling Jones passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 16, 2019 at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill.  Rachel grew up in Massey Hill and she was the daughter of Alice and Make Starling.  Rachel was one of five children; Buddy, Thelma, Gladys, and Lenora.

Rachel is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Robert D. “Jack” Jones; six children, Jack Levette Jones of Watha, Jymmie Claire Robinson and husband Wayne of Hope Mills, Doris June Marley and husband Carlton of Fayetteville, Janice Rachel Phillips and husband David of Hope Mills, John Malcolm Jones and wife Judy of Hope Mills, Jerry Duval Jones and wife Brenda of Hope Mills; 14 grandchildren, Tonya Strickland, Wayne Robinson, Jo El Skipper, Julie Smith, Jack Jones, Jr., Dave Phillips, Jennifer Baker, Judy Rayburn, Jessica Hilburn, Amy Figliotti, Jerry Jones, Jr., Robbie Jones, Carlton Marley, Jr., and Carla Carter; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 

Rachel was preceded in death by her son, William Jeffery Jones.

Rachel was a longtime active member of Hillside Baptist Church and very involved in the Women on Missions group, Sunday School, and numerous committees.  One of Rachel’s greatest passions was getting her family together for birthdays and Christmas and playing with the children.

.There will be a celebration of Rachel’s life on Monday evening 6-8 p.m. at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.  The funeral will be Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. at Rogers and Breece Chapel, with the burial at Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
