Palmer Johnson Obituary

Palmer Vosburgh Johnson, 38, of Fayetteville, NC passed away on October 3, 2023.

Palmer was born June 7, 1985, and grew up the oldest of three children. As the first-born baby, he brought immense joy to his parents. At a young age, Palmer was always very energetic, adventurous, and curious about life. He was always eager to learn and to do and developed a profound inquisitiveness as a child. As an adolescent and teenager, he was never afraid to take risks or to push the limits of what was possible, if it meant for another thrilling life experience. This certain excitement and overflow of energy would eventually evolve into a fearlessness that he would carry throughout his life. He loved surfing and snowboarding, and always had a knack for the more extreme sports in life. He had a passion for fishing and boating, being outdoors, and connecting with nature. It was a place for him to clear his mind and freely express himself, without the judgement of others.

Palmer’s love of the ocean began during his childhood summers spent at Ocean Isle Beach, which led him to pursue a young adult life in Wilmington, NC. He obtained his GED from Brunswick Community College and spent a few years working in various contractor trades. If he put his mind to it, he could fix almost anything. This is also when he would create an unbreakable bond with his beloved Chocolate Labrador, Ty.

Throughout the following years Palmer did his best to navigate through many life challenges. He moved and transitioned to different places, met new people, and sought ways to better himself. He tried, and he lived. He lived a life only in a way that he knew how. Palmer is finally at peace, a feeling that he may have never known as an adult.

It’s impossible to capture Palmer’s life as he experienced so much in such a short amount of time. He loved fiercely, yet struggled often, but his energetic spirit and tenacity for life never stopped. Although sometimes difficult for him to communicate, his heart was pure, and the true love he had for his friends and family was unmatched.

Palmer is survived by his loving parents, Marty, and Tim Johnson; brother, Tim Johnson and wife, Haley; nephew, Tripp; sister, Nellie Cheek, and husband, A.J.; nephew, Vos; niece, Tilly.

Palmer is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ed and Tacky Vosbugh, and his paternal grandparents, Terry, and Barbara Johnson.
