FAYETTEVILLE—Nina Prescott Godwin, 92, passed away on July 18, 2021 in Fayetteville, NC.
Nina was born in Dartmouth, Massachusetts to William and Simone Prescott. She was the oldest of five children. Her great, great grandfather was Colonel Prescott, commander of the American Forces at Bunker Hill at the start of the Revolution. She attended school in New Bedford, MA, Providence, RI and Bennett College in upstate New York. At Bennett College she studied dramatics and was spotted by a talent scout for Warner Brothers. Warner Brothers signed her to a contract in 1948 and she moved to the West Coast shortly thereafter. That same year, TV became available nationwide causing the industry to shift away from film until the effects of TV were fully known. As a result, she returned to New York to take on minor acting roles. In 1950, she married Harold Godwin, whom she met at the age of 15. After a short stint in the Air Force for Harold that lasted until the end of the Korean War, the couple moved to Fayetteville to start a permanent home. Nina was active in a number of Garden Clubs in Fayetteville and enjoyed singing in the First Presbyterian Choir.
Nina is survived by her husband Harold Godwin; her children Lisa(Wynn) Godwin, Prescott(Susie) Godwin, Chris(Linda) Godwin, and Melanie(Dell) Godwin; her grandchildren Lacy(John) Kells, Harry Godwin, Thomas Godwin, Laura(Zach) Hershey, and Luke Godwin; and 3 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. The family will receive friends following the service at 304 Sylvan Road in Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to First Presbyterian Church.
