Mrs. Myra Jean Lee Wood, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Myra was born in Cumberland County on December 3, 1928, to the late Hubert E. Lee and Mabel Bliss Hodges Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ernest Harding Wood; sisters, Dorothy Dean Lee, Pamela West, Doris Bowen, and Annie Sue Godwin; and her brothers, Larry Lee, Sr., and Jerry F. Lee.
Myra was devoted to her family and friends. She was a member of Women’s Aglow, and for many years a member of Vaughn Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a charter member of Covenant Love Church.
Her gentle demeanor belied her tenacity. At the early age of 15, she accepted the role of driving the school bus.
Myra worked for the Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company in Fayetteville prior to holding positions in civil service at Ft. Bragg and Pope Air Force Base. Upon retiring from the civil service, she worked with her husband in their real estate business, Cape Fear Realty and Brokerage Company.
She had a servant’s heart and was the most content when helping those in need.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Janice Melvin, and her son-in-law, James Taylor Melvin of Fayetteville, her sister, Geraldine Byrd of Erwin, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the care professionals of Liberty Home Care and Hospice, and Home Instead Senior Care.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Covenant Love Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:45 am, with the service immediately following at 12:00 pm. Immediately following the service, burial will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Love Church, or to a church or charity of your choice.
