Michael Jason Person

Michael Jason Person, 44, of Hope Mills, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Jason was born on July 16, 1977, in Fayetteville to Rod Person and the late Cindy Thompson. He graduated from South View Senior High School in 1996. Jason was a member of Highland Baptist Church where he was active as a greeter during the holiday season, as well as member of the Men’s Iron Man Sunday School class. Jason was an active supporter of his brother, Logan’s, love of baseball.  He was present all baseball games and tournaments and made friends wherever he went.  Jason’s true love was watching and attending WWE events and cheering on his beloved Duke Blue Devils basketball team and Philadelphia Eagles football team. He enjoyed gathering with family to watch and support his favorite sporting events. Jason will be remembered for his heartfelt hugs and his smile that lit up the room wherever he might be. Many people will miss the texts, phone calls, and words of encouragement Jason offered each day to those he loved. He loved big, and we were all better people for being a recipient of that love.  Jason was a kind and caring son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. Above all else, he cherished his family and friends.

Jason is survived by his father and bonus mom, Rod and Liz Person; his brother Logan Person; his dog, Dinger; his maternal bonus grandfather, Mr. Ronald Ruple, and maternal bonus grandmother, Mrs. Sharon Thompson, many special aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his “go to” cousin and best friend, Kimberly Douglas (Babe). He is preceded in death by his mother Cindy Thompson, his maternal grandfather, Mr. Billy Joe Thompson and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Ruple, his paternal grandparents, Carlton and Evelyn Person; and his bonus grandparents, Rev. Claybourn and Mrs. Faye Faircloth.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Anderson and Pastor Tommy Underwood officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:00-9:45 a.m. at Highland Baptist Church.  Burial will follow the service at Lafayette Memorial Gardens, 2301 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Highland Baptist Preschool, 4456 Legion Rd., Hope Mills, NC 28348. These donations will represent the love Jason received from the preschool students and the love he always gave in return.
