Melody Faye (Jones) Thursby

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Melody Faye Jones Thursby on January 30, 2025. Melody Faye was a cherished member of our community who deeply loved her husband and family.

Born on April 6, 1943, in Fayetteville, NC, Melody Faye was the only daughter of William F. Jones (Billy) and Berthenia Tyndall Jones (Bert). She was one of five children and is preceded in death by her older brother, William R. (Ronnie) Jones (Mary). She is survived by her younger brothers, Larry Elton Jones (Florence), Jerry Wayne Jones (Lori), and Walter Monroe (Bill) Jones (Patty).

As a dedicated Army wife for 20 years, Melody Faye supported her husband’s military career and later worked for Carolina Telephone Company, where she excelled in sales and retired after 25 years of service.

Family was at the core of Melody Faye's life. She was a devoted wife to Elmer Hugh Thursby for 60 years and a loving mother to Francine Thursby Bowers (Stuart) and Kenneth James Thursby. Melody Faye was also a treasured grandmother to Stephen Anthony Herring II (Kati), David Wayne McAllister, Jr. (Lauren), and Jason Hugh McAllister (Amber), and a beloved great-grandmother to Logan, Jackson, Connor, Graham, Aiden, Brody, Jordyn, and Leighton. Her dedication to family extended beyond her immediate household to include siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, including her “adopted” son, Steve Herring and his wife, Jan Herring.

Melody Faye's legacy is one of love, dedication, and loyalty. She taught us the importance of family and was always present at every family function. As the family historian, she shared her knowledge and ensured that family stories would be passed down through generations. Though Melody Faye is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Kingswood Reserve in Clayton and Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh for their exceptional care during Melody Faye's final days. Your compassion and support were a great comfort to us.

Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2025, with the memorial service immediately following visitation at 2:00 p.m., at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wesley Pritchard officiating. Interment will follow the service at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg, NC.
