MaryAnne Almenia Baker, 79, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at her home in Grays Creek. MaryAnne was born in Cumberland County on August 16, 1941 to the late Neill Alexander Baker and Kathleen Payn Baker.
MaryAnne is survived by her cousin Caroline Parsons and husband Jon of Grays Creek, and her two beloved cats Timmy and W.C. MaryAnne lost her beloved younger sister Kitty Story earlier this year and the surviving family is comforted to know that the Baker family is once again reunited and at peace.
MaryAnne had a fierce and lifelong love of nature and was devoted to the task of preserving the woods and habitat around her family home in Grays Creek as a safe harbor for the wildlife it sustains. She was a devoted caretaker for both her parents, and worked closely with her father for many years with the Sunshine Biscuit Company, and later in the costume shop of the Cape Fear Regional Theater. She was a loyal and generous friend who carried equal parts of her father’s dry Scotch wit and frugality with her mother’s gentle and loving nature. She is already greatly missed.
A graveside Memorial Service will be held at Marvin United Methodist Church on Highway 87 South in Grays Creek at 10:30AM on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society.
