Mark Louis Putnam, 22, passed away on April 19, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Garth Louis Putnam Jr.
Mark is survived by his father, Sean P. Putnam; his mother, Susanne J. Wagner; his grandparents, E. Patricia Putnam and Reinhardt and Thekla Wagner; along with extended family and many who loved him.
Mark was a student at Appalachian State University, where he was majoring in Business Information Systems. He previously attended Cumberland County Polytechnic High School, where he earned his associate’s degree in computer science. He also worked as an assistant manager at Staples in Boone, NC, where he was valued by his colleagues.
Mark was an Eagle Scout and served as Senior Patrol Leader with Troop 6 and 82 of the Boy Scouts of America in Fayetteville. As part of a military family, he lived and traveled throughout Europe and held dual American and German citizenship. He felt at home both in the Fayetteville community and in Schwandorf, Germany.
Mark was a gentle and kind-hearted soul who touched everyone who knew him. He was always quick to care for others, often putting their needs before his own. Though he carried struggles that were not always visible, he faced the world with courage in his own way. Those who loved him will remember his warmth, his sensitivity, and the light he brought into their lives.
Mark loved the outdoors, finding peace in camping and time spent in nature. In his final moments, he was surrounded by the tranquility of waterfalls and the wind in the leaves of the trees.
In his memory, may we all be a little kinder, a little more patient, and more willing to care for one another. Mark is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
A funeral service for Mark will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 29 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, with Father Arturo officiating. A reception will follow in the Gathering Hall, and burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
