Maria (Chieko) Rogers Drew - of Fayetteville, NC died Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Village Green Long-Term Care. Maria was born on December 1, 1933 in Otaru City, Hokkaido, Japan.
Maria loved sewing, knitting, making people pretty with her hairstyling skills, cooking for friends and family and bird watching. She enjoyed traveling and living in places such as KY, TN, Hawaii, SC, Louisiana, and even Isfahan Iran with her husband Carl who did contract work with Bell Helicopter. While in Iran she was employed as a beautician as well as work with the American School system there.
Until her health failed, she was a Cosmetologist and owned a salon for many years.
She was a long-term member of Village Baptist Church and a Japanese Bible Study group until failing health prevented her from attending.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Carl Drew; a sister Setsuko McPeak of Piscataway, NJ; 2 daughters, Sandy Rogers Hullender (Keith) of Fayetteville, Joann Rogers Tague of Goose Creek, SC, stepson Bob Moller of New South Wales, AU; 2 grandchildren, Brad Hullender of Fayetteville; Jennifer Capps of Goose Creek, SC; 2 great-grandchildren, Halley & Mallory of Goose Creek, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents Natue and Isao Takeuchi of Hokkaido, Japan, and her first husband Darry Rogers of Mullins, SC.
A Graveside Service will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 10:00am.
