Margaret Timmerman Kirkpatrick, 82, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2020, at her home in Fayetteville, NC after a long illness. Margaret is survived by her husband Robert P. Kirkpatrick, II, sons Robert P. Kirkpatrick, III (Allison) and Scott Alan Kirkpatrick (Beth), daughter Donna K. Malarkey (Martin), sister Eleanor Cernansky (Nicholas) and nieces Lyn Timmerman, Carol Loveland, Lauren Abrams and Marti Kula (Don). She was predeceased by her brother N.W. “Slats” Timmerman. A memorial service will be held at Snyder Memorial Church on June 27, 2020, the date they would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary.
She was born Margaret Glenn Timmerman to Sarah Inez and Norris Pope Timmerman and was the middle of three children. Margaret attended Julliard School of Music at the tender age of 13 where she developed her talent as a concert pianist and soprano singer. In 1955 she graduated from Hendersonville High School (Go Bearcats) and has remained friends with her graduating class ever since. While the group is smaller now, through the years they shared in all the ups and downs life had to offer.
In 1957 she married Robert Kirkpatrick with whom she raised three children. As a military wife, Margaret quickly learned how to make any new base her home. She understood that life as a military wife would be a challenge, including how to take care of children while Robert was deployed to Vietnam. They were able to live and travel in other countries and she always enjoyed a “good ride in the country” on the back of Robert’s motorcycle. As a member of the Eastern Star, Margaret was active in charitable work. As a homemaker, she loved her husband and kids, but also retired as an X-ray technician. Margaret and Robert (“Kirk”) were faithful members of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church since moving to Fayetteville in 1975. The church offered much comfort and inspiration through the years. She and Robert spent many years of their retirement serving as a volunteers at US state and national parks as well as Corps of Engineer campgrounds which gave them the opportunity to travel in their RV. Many happy memories were made with park rangers, other volunteers and guests of the parks.
Margaret (also known as Marge or “Miss Marge”) made connections with people from many walks of life. Life-long friendships were maintained through letters, cards, Facebook, email, calls, and visits. She always made time to check on family and friends and express a kind word. Margaret was a friend to all, but she also had those close deep relationships that she treasured. Time with family and friends (and her dogs) was what she lived for. Anyone who met her was left with the lasting impression that she lived by putting others first.
Memorials in her honor may be made to St. Jude Hospital or Snyder Memorial Baptist Church.
