Kenneth H. Hain, MSG (Ret.), was born on December 3, 1930, in Chicago, IL and passed away in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on March 26, 2025, at the age of 94.
Ken was a career soldier, and a proud member of the United States Army Special Forces. He served with distinction in Vietnam, completing seven combat tours and earning numerous military commendations for his bravery and leadership. His decorations include: the Good Conduct Medal (1st through 2nd Award), Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (AFEM), Bronze Star Medal (BSM), National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), Vietnam Campaign Medal with "V" Device, Armed Forces Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal (VCAM), Vietnam Service Medal (VSM), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, eight Overseas Service Bars, Presidential Unit Citation (PUC), Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC), and the Cold War Recognition Certificate.
As a decorated Green Beret, Ken embodied the values of service, sacrifice, and honor.
He is survived by his nephews, Rick Castro and Chris Castro, and his nieces, Sandi Castro, Bonnie Toma, and Betty Caruso. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Kenneth Castro, and his siblings: Robert Hain, who was killed in action during the Vietnam War; and his beloved sisters, Jean Castro and Mary Ramsey.
He will be missed, remembered, and forever honored.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at 2pm.
