Lura Tew Obituary

With hearts full of gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate Lura Jane (Alston) Tew, who entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 3, 2026, at the age of 84. Though we grieve her passing, we rejoice in God's promise of eternal life and find comfort knowing she now rests in His perfect peace.

Jane was born on March 30, 1942, in Windsor, North Carolina, to the late James Alston and Mary Hardin Alston. She made her home in Fayetteville, where faith, family, and service to others defined her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved siblings, Katherine Smith, Alice Winer, Ida Hemingway, James Alston, Levy Alston, and Bill Alston.

Jane was the devoted wife of Hardie Gibson Tew and loving mother to Cynthia Tew Rickenbaker (Fred), Joseph Tew (Melanie), and Tamara Tew Bullard (Scott). She was a proud grandmother to Thomas Rickenbaker (Taylor), Laura Bradford (Ryan), Anna Guerrero (Euquerio), Taylor Bullard, and Alyssa Bullard, and cherished great-grandmother to Finn and Rhett Rickenbaker.

As the owner of Tew's Custom Draperies & Blinds, Jane earned a reputation for excellence, integrity, and kindness. A faithful member of Massey Hill Baptist Church, she loved worshipping the Lord, singing with the choir, and serving others with humility and grace.

Jane found joy in gardening, flowers, saltwater fishing, traveling, church softball, and preparing meals for family, church gatherings, and those in need. She also treasured the lifelong love and friendship of her "second family," the family of Elliot and Ola Royal.

Jane's gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and servant's heart touched countless lives. We rejoice that she has finished her earthly race and now hears the words of her Savior: "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord." (Matthew 25:23).

A celebration of Jane's life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Massey Hill Baptist Church, 1027 Southern Avenue, Fayetteville, NC 28306. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by the memorial service from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park West, 6701 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Jane's memory.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7
