Lt. Col. Martin Speicher Obituary

Lt. Col. Martin Lovell Speicher, 81 years old, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Martin was born on June 3, 1943, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, to the late Lt. Martin Lovell and Miriam Lovell. His father, Lt. Martin Lovell, was killed in action during World War II. Miriam later married Dale Speicher, who became a cherished father figure to Martin until Dale's passing. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Miriam and Dale Speicher; his brother, Sammy; and his grandparents, Minnie and Encel Chamberlain.

Martin is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Karen; his children, Tara, Dale, Kelly, and Martin, along with Martin’s partner, Amber; his beloved grandchildren, Nicholas (Kyley), Madison, Hailey, and Taylor; and his great-granddaughter, Hazel.

A graduate of Kemper Military College, where he served as Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Speicher dedicated 27 years of his life to serving his country as a United States Army officer. His service was distinguished by numerous awards and honors, including The Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star with Valor, and two Purple Hearts.

Beyond his exemplary military career, Martin was a loving son, husband, father, and "Papa." He had a passion for golf and was an avid reader, always finding joy on the golf course and particularly at the 19th hole.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 9:45 to 10:45 am. A memorial service will be held at 11 am in the chapel. Burial to follow the service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
