Lelland Brisson Faircloth

May 18, 1932  - May 21, 2022

Lelland Brisson (LB) Faircloth of Fayetteville left this earth for his heavenly home on May 21, 2022.  He was born to Lelland Stanford and Minnie Lula Faircloth as one of eight children.  His family moved from Calypso, NC to Fayetteville when LB was a young boy. LB graduated from Central High School where he both played and loved the game of basketball.  During the Korean war, he served in the US Air Force, stationed in Munich, Germany.  He was a proud member of the Fayetteville Police Department as a motorcycle officer; however, most of LB’s working life was as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service.  He knew well the many people on his route, and they looked forward to his daily visits and ever-friendly manner.

In 1954, LB married Ellen Hair Powell. (He always said he was a sucker for those blue eyes!) LB and Ellen enjoyed an active life singing in the church choir, attending dances, and traveling on bus tours with LB as the driver.  Early on, LB started and coached a youth boys’ baseball and basketball team.  He continued to keep in touch with many of his team players into their adulthood.  LB was an avid golfer and enjoyed weekly breakfasts “with the boys” at Hardee’s.

LB is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen; his brothers, Odell and Arthur, and his sisters, Edith, Angie, Lois, and Christine.  Survivors include his sister, Jean Ciani of Fayetteville; daughters, Kim Green (Larry) of Fayetteville, Sandi Hubbard (David) of Stedman, and Vicki Hunt (Tom) of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Mandy St. John, Jon Hunt, and Chris Hunt; four great grandchildren, are Lucy, Joe, James and Charlotte.  Also surviving is special friend, Sarah Matthews, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26 at Village Baptist Church from 10:30am – 11:30am.  Funeral services will be held at 11:30am with the Reverend Nick Smith officiating.  A private graveside service will follow.
