Kathryn McLamb Obituary

Kathryn Chason McLamb was born on May 22, 1927, and passed away on March 27, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Ardena McFadyen Chason. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Cody McLamb.

A proud descendant of Scottish ancestry, she was a lifelong and active Presbyterian, having grown up in MacPherson Church before becoming a member of Peace Presbyterian Church. She served as an Elder, Clerk of Session, teacher, and leader, and was a member of the Choir and Handbell Choir. She also played the piano for the Preschool and the Highland House Ministry. She was honored with “The Faithful Saint Award” on two occasions.

She cherished the annual Scottish Reunions at Longstreet Presbyterian Church, where many of her ancestors are buried. Her great-grandmother McFadyen was born on a ship crossing the Atlantic Ocean from Scotland.

Kathryn graduated from Seventy-First High School, Montreat College, and the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina. She was a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma and dedicated her career to education, teaching in Wayne County, Cumberland County, and Fayetteville City Schools. She also served as interim principal of Margaret Willis School for three terms. After retiring from the school system with 32 years of service, she enjoyed traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her son, Mark McLamb, and his wife, Janice McLamb, of Wilmington, NC; her daughter, Laura McLamb of Fayetteville, NC; and her four beloved grandchildren: Michael Cody McLamb of Hickory, NC; Jessica McLamb of Stafford, VA; Lindsey Holtzclaw of Raleigh, NC; and Lauren Holtzclaw of Woodbridge, VA. “Ginga” will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, with whom she shared a love of storytelling, reading, and games. It was not unusual for Easter eggs to be hidden on the front porch lawn any time of the year.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Annie C. Robinson of Fayetteville, NC, and her brother, Charles R. Chason of Raeford, NC.

A funeral service will be held at Peace Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service in the front narthex of the church. Services are entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Presbyterian Church.
