Karen Sue McLaughlin Akana, 72, passed away on February 28, 2021 after losing her battle to cancer. She was born in 1949 in Morgantown, WV to the late Fred and Betty McLaughlin.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; her two sons, David Akana of WA and Paul Akana of Fayetteville; her sisters, Margaret Moore of TN and Kathleen Phillips of OH; two brothers, Fred McLaughlin of PA and Edward McLaughlin of LA, and three grandsons, Dylan of WA, Ethan of AZ, and Caleb of WA.
Karen served in the US Army, taught Catholic Catechism for 30 years, and worked for the Cumberland County School System for over 22 years. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her loving husband of 51 years, her two beautiful boys and grandchildren. She loved others for who they were, put others before herself, and was the best wife, mother, sister, and grandmother ever. Her uniqueness was her legacy and gift to us all.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 5, 2021 in Rogers & Breece Chapel. Burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park.
