Jesse James Britt, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on April 27, 1945, in Lumberton, North Carolina, Jesse was the son of the late James Albert Britt and Bonnie May Britt. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, his beloved wife, Betty Ruth Britt; his sisters, Ethel Reeves and Mary Leigh Jackson; and his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Shelia Strickland and husband, Jimmy Strickland, and Jesse James Britt, Jr. and wife, Denise Britt. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Dusty Strickland and wife, Shelby, Walter Strickland and wife, Ashley, and Madison Britt. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Haley Thompson, Taylor Register, Mason Strickland, and Draven Strickland, who brought him tremendous joy.
Jesse is also survived by his siblings, Foster Britt and wife, Patricia, Barbara Atkinson, and Rose Cox and husband, James, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
To know Jesse was truly to love him. He never met a stranger and had a heart that was as big as his smile. Kind, humble, and generous, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need without expecting anything in return. His quiet strength, unwavering faith, and genuine compassion touched the lives of countless people throughout the years.
Jesse dedicated 33 years of service as a lineman with PWC, where he was respected for his hard work, dependability, and commitment to serving his community. Outside of work, he found his greatest happiness in God's creation. Whether he was hunting in the woods, fishing on the water, or simply spending time outdoors, Jesse appreciated life's simple blessings. Above all else, his greatest joy came from being surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, caring brother, uncle, and faithful friend whose legacy of love, integrity, and selflessness will continue to live on through those who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Green Springs Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests your prayers during this difficult time as they celebrate Jesse's life and the many wonderful memories he leaves behind.
