Janet Marie (Hass) Bacunawa

Janet Marie Bacunawa, age 80, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, just days before her 81st birthday. Janet lived a life rooted in love, family, and simple joys, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Sikie Hass, and her beloved son, William “Bill” Hass.

Janet is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Felipe (Pepe) Bacunawa, and her loving children: Peggy Vanhorn of Miles, Iowa; Robert “Bob” Hass (Michelle) of Oxford Junction, Iowa; Brian Bacunawa of Clinton, Iowa; Ligaya Garcia (Albert) of Homestead, Florida; Phillip Bacunawa of Clinton, Iowa; Eric Bacunawa (Tiffany ) of Lillington, North Carolina; and Michael Bacunawa (Tiffany) of Temecula, California.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to 21 grandchildren: Bonnie D’Souzia, Benjamin Cram, Alicia Grimm, Jacob Cram, David Vanhorn; Brian, Patricia, Brandi, Alyssa, and Samantha Bacunawa; Angel Bacunawa; Jesse Landa; Elisa Nuno; Sophia and Max Garcia; Justin and Andrew Bacunawa; Julien Bacunawa; and Zayden, Malakai, Roman, and Veda Bacunawa. She was also blessed with a host of great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.

Janet found happiness in life’s little treasures. She was an avid thrifter who delighted in shopping for unique finds, collecting trinkets, dolls, and fine china. Her home was filled with the warmth of her personality and the memories she carefully gathered over the years. She especially loved the holidays, creating moments of togetherness that her family will forever hold dear.

Above all, Janet will be remembered for her deep love of family. Her kindness, warmth, and the joy she found in being surrounded by those she loved will remain in the hearts of her family for generations to come.
