James Bryan Sweers, 71, of Hope Mills passed away on July 31, 2024.
James was a devoted father and loving grandfather who cherished his family deeply, especially his grandchildren, who brought such joy to his days. He had a passion for collecting baseball cards and was an avid fan of racing, with Mark Martin being his favorite driver. James loved dancing, spending time at the beach, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing softball and was a dedicated member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Known for his big heart and kind nature, James was always honest and straightforward—what you saw was what you got with him. His love for his wife was unwavering; she cared for him devotedly over the last year and a half of his life, staying by his side until the very end. His daughter Jackie was also a constant presence during his illness, especially during the most challenging times. When things became difficult, Jackie reached out to her mother, who is a nurse, to help care for him.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Judy Sweers, and his son, James Ryan Sweers. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Marie Sweers of Fayetteville; beloved grandchildren, James Christopher Sweers, Jade Tyler Johnson both of Fayetteville; and his precious great grandson, Malachi Johnson Baswell, all whom he was lovingly known as Papa to. He is also survived by his brothers, Jeffrey Sweers and Jay Sweers, and his sister, Julie Finn.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 5:45 to 6:45 pm. A memorial service will be held at 7 pm in the chapel with Brother Larry Chason officiating.
