James Hobbs, Jr. Obituary

James Wilbert Hobbs, Jr., 62, passed away on May 14, 2023.

He was born and raised in Fayetteville, N.C., and remained a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Pine Forest Senior High School. While growing up, he was a talented artist and an All-star pitcher who was known for throwing a wicked knuckle ball.

James, Jr. had a lifelong affinity and love for being outdoors and was both an avid angler and hunter. He was fond of bird hunting, particularly dove and turkey hunting. He loved to spend time afield pursuing white-tailed deer. He was also an avid angler who loved to fish the rivers and lakes of his beloved North Carolina for large mouth bass. James, Jr. favored fishing on the Cape Fear, Roanoke, and Chowan Rivers. Saltwater angling, especially pier and surf fishing, was also a favorite pastime.

He was an avid fan and supporter of North Carolina’s various sports teams, NASCAR, and country music. James, Jr. particularly enjoyed spending time cheering for the Charlotte Panthers, N.C. State Wolfpack, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Lastly, he loved spending time with family and friends, especially if it involved steaming or shucking a bushel of North Carolina oysters.

James, Jr. is survived by three sisters, Ms. Sharon Tapscott of Fort Worth, TX; Ms. Rebecca Hutto of Dothan, AL; Ms. Vickie Hobbs of High Point, NC; and a brother, Mr. Douglas Hobbs of Alexandria, VA. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. James Hobbs, Sr.; his mother, Mrs. Zodie Hobbs; and his sister, Ms. Teresa Moore.
