Hannelore Roth Duke, 92, of Shallotte, NC, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025.
Born on April 23, 1933, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Hannelore moved to the United States in pursuit of a better life. After settling into her new home, she met the love of her life, William Duke. They were married on November 7, 1970, and through this union, she became part of a loving extended family.
In 1973, she proudly became a U.S. citizen, receiving her Certificate of Naturalization on February 28—a milestone she cherished deeply.
Hannelore and Bill shared a joyful life together and were affectionately known by many as "Mama Duke" and "Uncle Duke." She often spoke fondly of the Howard children, especially her dear Ryan. The couple shared a special love for animals, and she would often tell stories about their beloved companions, including Jenny the donkey and Tom the turkey.
After the passing of her beloved Bill, Hannelore made the courageous decision to start anew and moved to the beach, where she spent her remaining years. She cherished the many friendships she made throughout her life—Allison, her longtime hairdresser, was just one of many dear to her heart. She had a gift for connection and never met a stranger.
Hannelore was blessed to be embraced as family by Rick, Cheryl, and their loved ones, who treasured her deeply. Though she will be profoundly missed, there is comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved Bill, smiling down on all of us.
A funeral service will be held at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
