On Thursday morning, November 7th, 2024, Knox met his beloved Savior and Lord in heaven. During his final days on earth, he was often heard to say, "I love you, Jesus." It was his heart's desire to see his Savior, and now he is happy, healthy and whole.
Second only to his love of Jesus, was that he held for his beloved wife of 71 years, Betty Page Taylor. They married and had a family while still young. They grew up in Lumberton and moved to Fayetteville in 1955. Knox pursued a career in the grocery business. He was a skilled butcher and served as the meat manager for numerous stores in Fayetteville during his 45-year career. He was known for his skill, common sense and unparalleled work ethic. As a testament to this, upon his retirement, the division president for Kroger said that they would need to hire 2 people to replace him.
He was born July 20, 1933 on a rural farm in Robeson County. He spent the first 22-years of his 91-year life on the farm. and this was part of his core being his entire life. He loved all animals. The family backyard was frequented by squirrels, rabbits, possums, raccoons and every bird imaginable. Not to mention every stray cat within a mile...or two.
The family had numerous cats over the years that had all been rescued. They lived in the house as they were family. Pictures of them line the walls of the family den. They were all plump as Knox was known for giving treats whenever they came to him and meowed. To say they had him wrapped around their paws is an understatement.
Knox loved being outside. He delighted in his yard. He always had a project underway. Whether it was irrigation, new pavers, enlarging the patio, adding more azaleas or tending to the rose garden - this was his happy place.
Knox is survived by his wife and "sweetheart," Betty Page Taylor and daughters Betty Sue Taylor and Kendyl Taylor Jones (David).
Knox is buried at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.
The family asks that those seeking to make a gift in Knox's memory, direct those to Samaritan's Purse for Western NC Relief from Hurricane Helene.
