Frieda Hawks Obituary

Frieda Louise (Kroner) Hawks, 94, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Frieda was born in Fisher, Illinois on January 15, 1931, to the late William and Geneva (Dawkins) Kroner. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Kroner; sisters, Opal Kroner Drook and Ruby Kroner Lewis; her spouse, of 66 years, Eugene Wheeler Hawks; son, William Clinton Hawks, and her daughter in law, Carolyn Warren Hawks.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Eugene Wheeler Hawks, Jr. (Lorrie) and Daniel Ray Hawks; daughter, Cheryl Hawks Gore (Brian); eight grandchildren: Eugene Wheeler Hawks, III (Desiree), Sarah Elise Hawks, William Clinton Hawks, Jr. (Jillian), Mary Christina Hawks, McKenzie Gore Walling (Ethan), Brady Andrew Gore, Amber Lee Waters, Chad Ryan Waters (Jesenia) and her 16 great grandchildren.

Frieda loved the lord, her family, her friends, and had a zest for adventure. She cherished her church and her bible study group and missed not being able to attend the last few months. Frieda was known for her caring and nurturing spirit. She would often take care of her family and friends during sickness. She was a devoted military wife and supported her husband for 26.5 years moving with the Air Force. She volunteered for 19 years with the American Red Cross at Womack Army Medical Center. She was the Chairperson for 3 of those years and was awarded the “Department of the Army Commander’s Award for Public Service”. She was an avid reader and loved swapping books with her friends. Her love for traveling and adventure led her to the Roadrunners Travel Group where she went on many trips meeting new friends, and seeing new places. Frieda was also a member of the local AARP group where she served as treasurer.

Of all her accomplishments she was most proud of her family. When she wasn’t volunteering her time to her community, her most favorite times were spent with them. She loved them deeply and made everyone feel special. She never missed a birthday or any other holiday sending cards to her family and friends near and far. She poured her heart into raising her family, and her legacy will live on in their lives that she helped shape.

In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be sent to: Church of the Open Door, 4445 Cliffdale Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28314, or the American Red Cross, 807 Carol St, Fayetteville, NC 28303.

The family would like to thank Christy, Kristin, Michelle, Daisy, Frankie, Jill, and Sherrie with 3HC Hospice Care for the wonderful care, love, compassion, and support that you showed our mother and our family.
