Frank Orva Perkins, Jr., 80, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away early in the morning on January 12, 2025.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank Orva Perkins, and his mother, Allie McInnis Perkins, of Fayetteville, NC.
Frank is survived by his brother, Donald Lee Perkins, and sister-in-law, Kellie Pfaff Perkins, of Fayetteville, NC, and numerous cousins.
Frank was born in Fayetteville and lived there most of his life. He was baptized and became a lifetime member of the historic First Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville, NC. Frank was proud of earning his Eagle Scout and God and Country awards and gave the Boy Scout handshake to fellow Scouts throughout his entire life. He attended and graduated from Fayetteville High School and Oak Ridge Military Academy in Oak Ridge, NC, before attending Pembroke State University where he earned his BA in Business Administration.
Frank loved instrumental music, especially the clarinet which he played in the FHS band, Oak Ridge Military Band, Pembroke State University Band and Orchestra. After graduation, Frank worked with his father as a real estate appraiser and later became a partner in Associated Video & Audio with his brother, Donald.
Frank never knew a stranger and had a knack for making people feel appreciated and needed. He worked closely with the Ushering and Offering Committee of his church and was asked to be in charge of ushering and training people for fulfilling that role each Sunday.
Frank’s physical health began to deteriorate in his 40’s, and after the deaths of his parents, he chose to move into a health facility where he could have a more independent life. In May of 2021, Frank was put on a ventilator and doctors predicted that he would live only a few days once it was removed. He chose to remove it and told his brother he wanted to go home from Winston-Salem to Fayetteville. He became a resident of Bethesda Health Care in Eastover where he developed a love for his Bethesda family and enjoyed his home for another three years and eight months. He went to be with his Lord and Savior early on a Sunday morning, a fitting passage for this brave and courageous man.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 102 Ann Street in downtown Fayetteville, NC, on Friday, January 24th, at 1:00 pm with Dr. Mike Garrett and Chaplain Mitch Watson officiating. Frank’s family will greet friends in the Church Parlor beginning at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville, NC.
