Frances Marie Henderson Meade, age 83, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the home of her daughter in Hope Mills, North Carolina, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on February 25, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Frances was raised in a home full of warmth and close family ties. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Pennsylvania at the remarkable age of 16. Throughout her life, Frances embodied grace, strength, and unconditional love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph and Frances Henderson; her brother, Joseph Henderson; and her husband, Robert David Meade. Together, Frances and Robert built a beautiful life and family, navigating the many moves and challenges of military life with resilience and joy. As an Army wife, she made every duty station feel like home, always adding a touch of fun and stability for her children.
Frances is survived by her six children: Jon Meade, Suzanne Simmons (Ken), Christine Snead, Kevin Meade (Shelly), Sharon Start (David), and Daniel Meade. She was the proud and loving grandmother to 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cherished twin sisters, Patice Litwa (Michael) and Pamela Foltz (Jim), who shared a special bond with her that endured through every season of life.
Professionally, Frances spent many years serving at Womack Army Medical Center, first as a Supervisor with the Department of Family Medicine, and later in a more relaxed role in Patient Billing. She also worked earlier in life for SunRock Corporation in Pennsylvania.
Frances’s greatest joy was always her family. She was the heart and soul of her home—an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was known for her listening ear, steady support, gentle advice, and nonjudgmental nature. She never took sides but always stood by her loved ones with quiet strength and wisdom. She was a keeper of secrets, a source of comfort, and a safe place for all who knew her.
She had a playful and creative spirit—spending earlier years crafting ceramics and making leather belts. Frances adored the color purple, a hue that matched her warmth and vibrancy. She always had her nails painted in shades of purple and made sure her hair was brushed neatly. One of her sweetest joys was gazing at the sky, finding shapes of puppies and other figures in the clouds—a reminder of her gentle wonder and love of simple beauty.
Frances made every person she met feel seen, heard, and valued. Her legacy of kindness, humility, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
