Evelyn Spicer Obituary

Evelyn Fay Spicer, age 98, died peacefully with her family on Monday, November 18, 2024, in her home where she resided for 63 years.

Fay loved her home, but her deceased husband, Bob, was the love of her life for over 69 years.

Fay, the second oldest of nine children, grew up on a farm in Arkansas. In 1946, she met Bob at Camp Robinson Army Base, and they were married later that year. Shortly thereafter, Bob started a professional baseball career beginning in Fayetteville and Fay enjoyed traveling with him across the country as his career progressed.

Fay was a teacher’s assistant with Cumberland County Schools until she retired at the age of 80 yet continued to substitute for several years. To additionally provide for her family, she worked at Clarice’s Jewelry Shop and Rome’s Jewelers on holidays and weekends. She enjoyed watching sports on TV plus attending and supporting their children’s activities, rarely missing any. She faithfully attended Snyder Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member since 1951.

Fay was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Maudie Ingle; her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Spicer, Sr.; three brothers, Franklin, Bobby, and Ernest Dale; and four sisters, Pearl, Hazel, Joyce, and Carolyn. She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Carper and husband, Charlie of Port Orange, FL; her son, Robert (Bobby) Spicer, Jr. and wife, Rory of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Caroline Spicer of Fayetteville, Cooper Wurst and wife, Erin of Fayetteville, Emily Watson and husband, Brian of Gainesville, GA, and her great granddaughter, Lainey Marie Watson. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Mertsoc and a host of nieces and nephews in California, Arkansas, and Virginia.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 1:45 to 3:15 pm. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 pm in the Rogers and Breece Chapel with Reverend Sandy Saunders officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fay’s memory.
