Ethel Phillips Obituary

Ethel Mae Thibodeau Phillips, 81, of Hope Mills passed away on January 21, 2022.

Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ray Phillips Sr.; her parents, Newman Perley and Alta Rogers Thibodeau; siblings, Marita Inze Wood, Sally Ann Foster, Helen Lagasse, Bette Gene Thibodeau, and Lewis Henry Thibodeau. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Richard Ray Phillips Jr. (Kim) of Laurinburg, James Andrew Phillips (Deborah) of Hope Mills, and John Jacob Phillips of Little Washington; her grandchildren, Matthew Phillips of Laurinburg, Michael Phillips of Hope Mills, and Kaitlyn Phillips of Fayetteville; her brother, David Thibodeau of Vancouver, BC.

Born on April 6, 1940, in Caribou, Maine, Ethel was a lifetime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fayetteville, NC. Over the years, she served in different capacities within the church. She had a passion for helping those in need. She volunteered at a homeless shelter and made baby blankets for single, pregnant woman. This ministry developed from a dream that she was shown one night. She was a humble and compassionate person. She dedicated her life to loving and caring for others especially, her grandchildren. Some of Ethel’s hobbies included crocheting, cross-stitching, playing board games, reading, and watching birds. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was truly a special person.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 Am on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends prior the service from 10:00 to 11:00 Am.

In lieu of flowers, donation can be sent to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
