Elsie Marie Cavanaugh Taylor, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Elsie was born September 29, 1936, in Richlands, NC to Henry Sylvester Cavanaugh, Jr and Bernice Frances Aman Cavanaugh.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Anne Baith, Sara Heath, Virginia Thomas, Christine Hampton, and brother, Henry S Cavanaugh, Jr.
Elsie is survived by her sons, Robert Brown Taylor, Jr and wife Brenda, James Henry Taylor and wife Ashley, and Philip Andrew Taylor and wife Anna Gregory, as well as, her four grandchildren Robert Brown Taylor, III, Elizabeth Grace Taylor, Hannah Nicole Taylor, and Henry Mills Taylor
Elsie was an amazing and loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She earned her BA in Social Studies at High Point College and later earned her Masters of Education at East Carolina University. She worked as a school counselor at Southview Junior High and retired from JW Coon Elementary. She had a beautiful, strong faith that she openly shared with others. She was a longtime member of Haymount United Methodist Church and taught the Bergland Sunday School Class. Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) was a big part of her life. She loved the Lord and enjoyed studying His word. She lived life to the fullest taking dancing lessons, traveling, spending time with friends, and researching the family genealogy. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, taking immense pride in the legacy of love and faith she built with her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Haymount Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 9th with Reverend Allen Bingham officiating. The family will greet friends after the service in the Commons Room.
