Elizabeth Jane DeMark Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Jane DeMark, 80, of Fayetteville, NC passed on March 25, 2021.  Betty and her husband John were married for 56 years.  The family traveled abroad and throughout the U.S during her husband’s 30-year military career in the U.S. Army.

In addition to being a military spouse and mother, Betty enjoyed a successful business career in sales and in civil service in Germany for 8 years.  Upon returning to the US, Betty continued her career in sales and marketing for commercial beverage companies in Elmira, NY during her husband’s tour of duty in Vietnam.

Betty and John reunited in Hawaii, then permanently relocated to Fayetteville, NC.  While there, both were honored for their leadership roles as Moose members and other philanthropic contributions. Betty continued her career which quickly accelerated from General Management to NC Regional Sales Director with employment agency services.  She soon earned awards and National recognition in corporate business development and customer service retention.  Her business acumen and passion were always helping others find their own career success.  After retirement, she found true joy as the grandmother of three.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John DeMark Jr., with 56 years of marriage; her parents, Walter and Pauline Makowiec of Elmira, NY; and Betty’s lifelong friends and angels including her sister-in-law Irene Johnson, cousin Theresa Youngman, and Diane (Midge) Tarantelli, all of Elmira, NY.

She is survived by her three children, Robin DeMark of Mount Olive, NC, John DeMark of Salt Lake City, UT, and Dean DeMark of Fayetteville, NC; her brother, Richard Makowiec of Palm Bay, FL, three grandchildren, Kate DeMark, of Salt Lake City, UT, and Madison and Morgan DeMark of Fayetteville, NC; and lifelong friends and family, Ken Bailey of Ocala, FL, Joseph Makowiec of De Kalb, NY, Terry Rogers of Columbia, OH and Mary Ann Kamas of Elmira, NY, Marsha and Mike Hurst of Fayetteville, NC.

A Catholic Service will be held at 1:00 PM on April 7, 2021 in the Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 2844 Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304, with Rev. Marlon Mendieta. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will immediately follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 4509 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to St. Casimir Church, 1000 Davis Street, Elmira NY, 14901 where Betty and John were married on April 8, 1961.
