Edward Newell Stever Obituary

Mr. Edward Newell Stever, 101 years old of Fayetteville, NC is one more person of the greatest generation to pass. He passed away in his home on Tuesday January 26, 2021. He was born on March 22, 1919 to the late Leo and Lillian Stever of Binghamton, NY. He was a great man inside and out. He had love in his heart and touched many lives and was liked by one and all. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Shirley of 67 years.  Mr. Stever was retired from IBM corporation after working 43 years for them. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was awarded the Bronze Star, The Air Medal, The Distinguished Flying Cross, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and others.

 He had a love for cars and horses throughout his whole life. He decided that he was ready to stop driving in October of 2020. He had a niche for journalizing his beautiful life with his family and friends. In 1980 he moved from Binghamton and settled in Concord, NC where he worked for IBM and retired. He then moved closer to his family in Fayetteville. He was a volunteer at the US Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum in downtown Fayetteville. He celebrated his 100th birthday there and received over 8,000 cards from around the world. He lived each day of his life to the fullest. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great great-grandfather.

Mr. Stever was preceded in death by his wife Shirley E. Stever and sisters Grace Moryl, Nellie Mitchell, and Helen Ellenberger, and great granddaughter Noel Alexis Young.

He is survived by his daughter Dona Dicks and husband Richard Dicks of Fayetteville, NC, son Terry Stever of Sulpher, Ok., and Cheryl Young and husband John Young of Fayetteville, NC 

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kimberly Senecal and husband Joseph Senecal of Charleston, SC., Jay Young and wife Natalie Young of Fayetteville, NC.,Russell Dicks and wife Stacey Dicks of Austin, TX., Doug Dicks of Fayetteville, NC., and Holly Lackey of Albemarle, NC., Also a niece Virginia Trotter.

Also, eight great-grandchildren, Emily Senecal, Dayton Senecal and wife Savannah Senecal, Holden Senecal, Savannah Young, Alexis Young, John Grant Young, Katlyn Sellers, and Chance Lackey, and lastly, four great-great-grandchildren, Jace Senecal, Miles Senecal, Christopher Sellers, and Willow Sellers.

The family will receive friends at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home on 3 February 2021 from 6pm to 8pm following a funeral service at 5 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to VFW, and other Veterans memorials.
