Drucilla Trudy (McCracken) Burdette

Drucilla Trudy Burdette (McCracken), 89, of Fayetteville, NC passed away on May 4, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones after a long illness.

Drucilla (Drew) was born on May 14, 1934, in Woodside Mills, SC (Greenville) and was the daughter of the late Moses and Bessie Elizabeth McCracken.  She is survived by a sister, Juanita Connell of Merritt Island, Florida.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Bee Mann, Mary McCracken; brothers, Troy McCracken and Leroy McCracken and her beloved son, Robbie Burdette.

She was married to CSM Robert Burdette (preceded) of the 82nd airborne and spent most of their life in the Fort Bragg area.  They attended JFK Chapel at Fort Bragg.  Together they raised six children, Rick Burdette (Meg), Tina Burdette Toomer (Larry), Mavi Burdette, Mike Burdette, Mark Burdette (Karen),  and Rebecca Burdette Downey (Mark); grandchildren include Diana Peabody, (Tony) Lauri Stevens, (Lowell) Ricky Burdette, (Adrian) Amanda Downey, (Cory) Mark Downey, Jr, (Alex) Chelsea Burdette, (Justin) Taylor Burdette, Megan Atkins, Jessica Chambers, (Ackeem) Jacqueline Rocke, (Ty) Jamie Mocny, (Michael) Larry Toomer, Jr, George Toomer, (Wendy), Ryan Burdette (Kayla) Mark Burdette (Shana) Scott Murphy (Kelli) , and 36 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was the matriarch of our family and loved The Lord.  We are forever grateful to Rebecca and Mark Downey who for the last 4 ½ years lived with our mother and took care of her so she could remain in her home.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 12:45 to 1:45 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm in the chapel with Pastor Toni Evans officiating. The burial will be held at Main Post Cemetery on Friday, May 10, at 11 AM.
